Bewitching Wildflowers: Bluebell

Hey everyone, hope you are all having a gret new year, we have been working on a few new projects here & Miracles N Magic… we are working w/ a few friends and we will be bringing you some great new links soon. In honor of one of our new projects we are going to be starting a new category… Flowers also you will see more posts in our Herb category. Today’s post is going to be the first in that category.

The Mertensia virginica known as bluebell, is a fleshy, showy plant. They can grow up to 2 feet in height. Flowers are arranged in clusters, hanging bell-like, and are about 1 inch long.  The buds start out ink and then change to blue as they open. The leaves of this flower are a bluish green color and oval shaped. They are known to grow in both the sun & the shade in bottomlands & hillsides of woods. Bloom time is April through May. The plant goes dormant in the month of June.

Flower folklore tells us that the bluebell stands for constancy & declares that “I am faithful”. At one time, it was the national flower of England. The English variety of the bluebell is identified as Hyacinthodes non-scripta. It was also known as the wild hyacinth & grew abundantly in medieval woodlands of England.

The bluebell is a faerie flower, and if you make an unselfish wish when you spot the first bluebells of spring, the faeries are sure to grant your request.  Magical asspciations are good luck & truth. The astrological correspondence is Venus. Plus, it’s good to note that all true blue flowers are sacred to Venus & Aphordite, the Greco-Roman goddesses of love & desire. It is said that if a person wears a bluebell, they are compelled to tell the truth.

A friendly warning when working magic w/ the bluebell will show you the truth in any matter. Just remember you are asking for the truth and that you may discover more then you wish. With the spell below, you are not asking to see what you want, you are asking for the truth, so keep that in mind & be prepared to learn something that you may not want to know.

Bluebell Spell to Know the Truth
Bluebell, bluebell, lend your power to mine,
Please show me the truth, here, now at this time.
A Venus flower, you are faithful, constant & true,
May I use this knowledge wisely in all that I do.

Close this spell w/ these lines:

Worked for the good of all w/ A Green Witch’s art
