The Floral Vocabulary

Hey hey everyone, hope you are enjoying your day. It’s beautiful here after days of rain. Everything smells so clean. I love the day after rain. For today’s post I am going to list some flowers and what they mean according to the language of flowers. I found this list, in one of my favorite books, The Witches’ Almanac, Issue 28, Spring 2009 – Spring 2010.

Buttercups — riches
Camellias — excellence
Chrysanthemums — slighted love
Daffodils — uncertainity
Dahlias — elegence
Daisies — affection
Dogwood — coquetry
Forget-me-nots — true love
Geraniums — stupidity
Hollyhocks — ambition
Honeysuckle — bonds of love
Jonquils — desire
Lavender — mistrust
Lilacs — fastidiousness
Lillies-of-the-valley — return of happiness
Lime Blossoms — conjugal love
Love-lies-bleeding — hopelessness
Magnolias — love of nature
Marigolds — trouble
Narcissus — selfishness
Nasturtiums — patriotism
Orange Blossoms — chastity
Pansies — thoughts
Passion flowers — belief
Peonies — shame
Poppies, red — dreams
Poppies, white — dormant attention
Scarlet Pimpermels — appointment
Sunflowers — lofty thoughts
Sweet William — scorn
Tiger Lillies — cruelty
Touch-me-nots — impatience
Tulips, red — true love
Tulips, yellow — hopeless
Violets, white — candor
Violets, purple — modesty
Water Lillies — growing indifference
