Anything Is Possible If You Believe

Dream Dictionary M-O

Magical Powers – One of the great things about dreams, especially lucid dreams where you are aware of dreaming and can practically control the outcome, is that you can acquire unusual powers. These may include almost any conceivable ability needed to solve the problem at hand. The problem is that you may lose them without explanation at a critical moment.
The acquisition of magical powers may come from a number of sources. You may simply conjure them from within yourself. You may be given an article of clothing that contains special powers, or you may find a rock or other object that projects power into you. The implication is that you can solve problems with available resources. However, this may simply be a wish-fulfillment dream to dispose of problems without working through them.
The loss of powers is often a reality-check dream. While you may think you have power in your dream to do great and glorious things, the truth in waking is that problems do not always solve themselves. There may be a level at which your mind is concerned about your waking bravado in certain situations.

The magic you experience could be a sign that you are struggling against the most reasonable outcome of a particular situation. Often, we are unable to appreciate the logic or simplicity of a given situation because of our desire to work it.

Marbles – Childhood toys and stereotypical childhood games often illustrate the childlike approach you take to many relationships. To understand the marble dream, think about how well you play and how high the stakes are in the dream.

What is the nature of your magical powers in the dream-physical or mental? What do you use these powers to accomplish?

To dream of a game of marbles, or many other childhood pastimes, can mean an attempt to return to innocence. A key element is who is playing with you.

Are you playing with childhood friends or with someone you’ve only known as an adult? Does the game feel like a fun activity, or is it a competitive challenge?

Masks — Dreaming of wearing a mask is often a dream of how you want others to see you. A twist on this theme is that you may be afraid others are perceiving you without knowing the real you. It may be that the mask attaches and removes from your face, depending on whose company you are in. Also, others may be conspicuously placing the mask on you to give you an identity that you are uncomfortable assuming. Or, they are wearing the mask themselves to deceive, frighten, or amuse you.

If you are wearing a mask, who is in your presence and what is the mask like? Ask the same questions if others have the mask.

Medical Personnel – Dreaming of medical persons takes on three general types of presentation: you as patient, you as medical professional, and you receiving nonsensical care from medical persons.

As patient, you want someone to fix where it hurts. In dreaming, this is often a feeling of powerlessness or irresponsibility regarding matters in your own life. The area of physical discomfort probably symbolizes an area of emotional discord. This can be as obtuse a connection as you can imagine.

If you are the attending doctor or nurse, you may not know your patient, but you see yourself as empowered with the knowledge and skill to bring about healing. The dream may reflect a care-giving or supportive role you fulfill. The presenting symptoms of the patient may allude to a facet of the relationship where you may need to give additional attention.

Receiving nonsense care from doctors or nurses frequently falls into the category of being unable to communicate. Either others do not understand your needs or you feel unable to articulate your needs. You may be experiencing a very lop-sided relationship in which your needs are going virtually unmet.

A romantic liaison with medical personnel is another dream scenario that often occurs. In dreams of this nature, you may want your romantic interest of waking life to be more attentive to your personal needs. Or you may just be one of those people who get crushes on doctors and nurses and are experiencing some dreamland wish-fulfillment.

A doctor may also appear in your dream as the person who is trying to save the life of someone close to you. This character is likely a projection of yourself, in the sense that you want to be able to help someone in need.

Does the doctor seem to ignore you or is she unable to understand your questions?

Does the doctor assure you that everything will be OK?

Mother – Dreams that include your mother can be extremely varied in meaning depending on your relationship with her and particular situations at any given time.

Did you perceive your mother as omniscient and all-loving at a particular phase of childhood? Has your mother’s relationship with you included power struggles or inappropriate intrusions into your affairs? Have you lost contact with your mother (either by death or by choice) and left some issues unresolved?

The answers to these questions will help decipher many of the images that appear with your mother in your dreams.

Mountains – The Mountains can be a place of majesty, danger, or ritual sacred land. You may just like being in the mountains and dream of them for that reason. They may make you feel good about nature, rebirth, and being alive.

Also, the mountains may be a something to cross alone-either by choice or because you find yourself there for some unclear reason. You will want to consider who said good-bye when the journey started, why you left, and what you expected to encounter in the mountains of your dreams.

The mountaintop experience has long been an idiomatic expression for the best life has to offer. Are you searching for or unable to attain a particular success in waking life, or do you feel you have ascended to that height in a particular area?

MovieAttending– What kind of movie do you go see and with whom? If this is among the most memorable dream images, you may be trying to initiate or resolve a relationship issue by watching others portray it. The movie plot will often provide guidance on how to do this. Even if the movie is a film with nonsensical or overwhelmingly destructive events, your subconscious chose it for some desire that lurks below the surface.

You may be searching for a vicarious substitution for a life you consider mundane. In the film, what particularly (un)satisfactory events are portrayed by whom and how do those events parallel your own life?

Starring In – One of the strangest feelings to have is the dream that includes watching yourself in a movie. For starters, you are two places at once-watching yourself and being in the movie. While sometimes your dream logic says, oh yeah, this is a film I am in, other times it fails you. These turn into dream events that contain an out-of-body experience.

In either case, there is often a sense of derealization of whatever is occurring in the movie plot. There can be several reasons for this. One is to lower the psychological pain of a dream. Since you are watching yourself in the dream, you can reinforce your defense mechanism even in the subconscious state by saying, it’s only a dream. Another is to allow you to evaluate the events more objectively. Insight requires self-awareness. Self-awareness requires being able to discern your power and action in the world. The movie makes power and action more observable.

The other version of the movie dream is simple wish-fulfillment.

Is your life so good or so bad that at times you wonder when the dream will end? These feelings in waking life can create derealization in dreaming perceptions.

Museum Places that collect artifacts provide pictures of our past and the persons, events, or activities that have influenced us most. Regardless of what museum you visit-history, art, wax, or special interest-the artifacts or with whom you are viewing them will indicate a facet of your waking life needing attention.

If you are in a history museum, the objects may all point towards a branch of the family tree. The way you feel about the artifacts you view will undoubtedly reflect your feelings about the situation or people illustrated in the dream. You may be shown that you need to do some repair work.

What pride or embarrassment do you derive from your history as a human being and member of a family?

A wax museum may reveal that you are dehumanizing people in relationships. This can be positive, if you have given away too much power. However, often it is a negative sign that you are treating others as objects without regard for their humanity.

The art museum can be a restful place or a place of recounting life experiences both good and bad. You may not be in any of the paintings or you may be in all of them. Depending on your exposure to art, you may view only a particular genre or artist.

However, what you view is showing you truth about yourself.

Nagging – One of the reasons we respond so strongly to dream content is because it often is an exclamation point rather than a period. Dream statements exist in the superlative as often as not. This is especially true of the interpersonal relationships-some are revealed as the best; others as the worst. Over time, no interpersonal event is more draining than the nag. Who is nagging you and why? Some dreams include the nagger as a caricature of nagging, and the droning eventually becomes funny. Other dreams create a symbolic avoidance of a person because of a fear of nagging. The final version of the nag is the forward, ongoing sapping of your emotional strength through the dream story. There may be a facet of your waking life where you have chosen denial as your modus operandi. Nagging dreams may be a specific attempt to draw you back into dealing with it. More often, the dream is about a person that you are taking too seriously or not seriously enough. The interpretation depends on your waking relationship to the individual, the content of the nagging as it reflects actual waking priorities, and your honesty in the relationship. Are you meeting the expectations of others responsibly or do you feel inherently inadequate? Are others directly criticizing your inadequacy at certain levels?

Nudity – Exposure in dreams is a powerful event. Often times, people report dreaming they are nude or dressed only in undergarments. These dreams often reveal the vulnerability that lies just below the surface of our more confident selves. This vulnerability comes from the self that we hide from others. The hiding may be conscious, such as taboo behavior, or less conscious, stemming from a general sense that if you were fully known, you would not be fully accepted.

Numbers Numbers have many means of access into dreams. The most common is through objects. For example, sometimes you have stones in your hand. Another time, a stranger may give you stones. How many stones does the stranger give you?

Another means of access to numbers is through time. This time could be generalized in that it feels like about one hour. You may look at a digital watch and see an exact time, maybe even a nonsense time. It may be a particular date. In any case, the occurrence of numbers in dreams is an interesting study.

While numerology is a field of study in itself, there are general conclusions that can be drawn about dream numbers that may be helpful. First, you need to ascertain how the number got into your head in relationship to the dream.

Adding the digits together and discerning a difference between numbers, squares, and cubes is another way to handle numbers in dreams. Our minds are capable of pretty tricky internal math, given the chance. The problem with math and waking life is that able minds are talked out of successful math efforts due to common misconceptions and other illogical fears.

The study of numerology is a good complement to your dream interpretations, especially if numbers come up often.

Some Numbers have different meanings as well, Dream Moods is an online dream dictionary that has a list of the most common numbers.

Nurse – The nurse is a unique figure in medical personnel dreams because of the romance attached to the helping professions.Sometimes nurses are even portrayed as angels. Aside from the romantic component, nurses often functions as extras in other medical or sickness dreams.

Old Man or Old WomanThese are archetypal figures of wisdom or spiritual power in dreams. For many people, the role of the father or mother has been lost in society through either divorce, work holism, or some other emotional dysfunction. The psyche is prone to look for versions of this loss wherever it can create them, even out of the self.

Often times, these characters personify and validate an internal source of wisdom that has been written off by the psyche. It may be that you are confronted with a problem that escapes solution because of the most conscious worldview you ascribe to. However, another means of problem-solving that you view as old-fashioned may be effective. The wisdom figure in your dream is trying to teach you this truth.

Do you fear or disdain either your lineage or the prospects of your own aging?

Are you ambivalent about the purported wisdom of your elders concerning life choices you are now facing?

Are you looking for or missing some wisdom that would aid your life-quest?

Orphanage or Being Orphaned – This is often a dream of neglect, fitting in, or seeking to act with benevolent power in the world. Much of the meaning to be derived from this sort of dream depends on how you locate yourself within the orphan scenario of the dream.

If you find yourself working in an orphanage, seeking to adopt a child from an orphanage, or just visiting an orphanage, you may be seeing yourself as an agent of justice in the world-this is worthy of consideration. You may be trying to fight against injustice, or trying to compensate for acts of unfairness you have committed in your waking life.

If you appear as a child in an orphanage, the connectivity of your waking relationships is worth examining. Do you have a sense of belonging and rooted ness in the world or a sense of trying to find your place?
